This
kitchen was dark brown, and had lowered ceilings and
small windows that failed to take advantage of the home's
bucolic setting.
We began the renovation by maximizing the number and
size of windows even forgoing standard upper
cabinets to bring in natural light and the wonderful
view. We used custom concrete countertops, natural cherry
cabinets, and stainless steel appliances to make the
room both textured and warm, as well as modern and convenient
for cooking and entertaining.
Belmont, Massachusetts
This
kitchen was frozen in time. It had 50s-style painted
pine cabinets, small windows, a fake brick backsplash,
and even a fake vent hood over the stove! Traffic was
obstructed by a closet built out into the room that
managed to get in the way of two doorways.
We removed everything but the wood floors, which we
refinished. We put in bigger windows, custom maple cabinets,
and granite counters. A breakfast table — sitting
where the closet once was — now looks out a new
glass door onto the back deck.
Newton, Massachusetts
This
kitchen had been last renovated in the 1960's, but the
layout was even older. A series of small rooms, including
a pantry, kept the space cut off from the rest of the
house.
We removed all the small rooms and replaced them with
a large eat-in kitchen, a study, and a laundry room.
We increased the number of the windows and glass doors
to bring sunlight into the space.
